IT consulting & strategy for Adelaide businesses

Good IT shouldn't be guesswork. We sit down, look at what you've got, figure out what's holding you back, and build a plan that actually makes sense for your business and your budget. No jargon-filled reports that gather dust — just honest advice from a local team who've been doing this since 2001.

What is IT consulting & strategy?

IT consulting and strategy is about stepping back and looking at the big picture — what technology your business runs on, whether it's doing its job, and what needs to change. It's not about selling you gear. It's about understanding where you're headed and making sure your IT can keep up, whether that means upgrading systems, moving to the cloud, tightening security, or just sorting out the mess that's built up over the years.

What we cover

Technology assessment

We audit what you're running now — hardware, software, network, security — and tell you what's working and what isn't.

IT roadmap & planning

A practical plan for the next 12–36 months, tied to your business goals and your actual budget.

Cloud & infrastructure advice

Honest guidance on what should move to the cloud, what should stay, and how to do it without disruption.

Vendor management

We deal with your software vendors, ISPs and hardware suppliers so you don't have to chase three different companies.

Security & compliance review

A clear look at where your risks are and what needs fixing — especially around the Essential Eight and data obligations.

Budget & procurement

We help you spend in the right places and avoid paying for things you don't need.

Who it's for

  • Businesses that have outgrown their current IT setup and aren't sure what to do next.
  • Owners who've been making ad-hoc tech decisions and want a proper plan.
  • Companies preparing for growth, a new office, or a system change.
  • Organisations that need a second opinion before committing to a big IT spend.

How it works

  1. An honest conversation. We talk about your business, your frustrations, and where you want to be.
  2. We look under the hood. A proper review of your systems, security, network and spending.
  3. A clear report. Plain-English findings — what's good, what's not, and what to do about it.
  4. A practical roadmap. Prioritised steps with realistic timelines and costs, not a wish list.
  5. Ongoing advice. We stay in your corner — available for questions, reviews and planning as your business changes.

IT consulting questions

Do we need IT consulting if we're a small business?

Especially if you're a small business. You can't afford to waste money on the wrong tech — a couple of hours of advice now can save you thousands down the track.

How much does an IT assessment cost?

It depends on how many users and sites you've got. We'll give you a fixed quote up front so there are no surprises.

Will you try to sell us a bunch of new gear?

No. If what you've got works, we'll say so. We only recommend changes when there's a genuine reason — like end-of-life hardware or a security gap.

Can you work with our existing IT person or provider?

Absolutely. We're happy to collaborate — whether that's a one-off review or ongoing strategic input alongside your current setup.

Ready for IT that makes sense?

Tell us what's bugging you and we'll have an honest chat about where to start — no obligation, no jargon.

No two businesses are the same — so nothing we do is off-the-shelf. Every solution is built around yours, and kept simple.

Our story

Built in Adelaide, since 2001

WaTo Consulting was founded by John Watson in Adelaide in 2001. Over two decades it's earned a name for tailored work across a wide range of industries — helping businesses of every size run more smoothly, work more efficiently and grow steadily, without blowing the budget or disrupting the day-to-day.

Emma Watson (née Dickenson) played a significant part in shaping what WaTo became. She brought real expertise and a clear vision for where it could go — expanding the business, bringing in new systems and fresh thinking, and raising the standard of how things are done. A great deal of what WaTo is, we owe to her.

Today it's all tailored, never off-the-shelf — IT & Digital, Business & Web Hosting, built around what each client actually needs. Over the years those areas have come together under one roof: our IT & Digital, Currency, Business and Web work (through Whosts.au) now all sit within WaTo Consulting — one team, one standard, looking after the lot.

When you work with us, you're not a client — you're a partner.
