SSL/TLS provisioning for Adelaide websites

Every website needs a valid SSL/TLS certificate to show the padlock, encrypt visitor data and avoid Google's 'Not Secure' warning. We provision, install and manage certificates for Adelaide businesses — from free Let's Encrypt to commercial certificates — so HTTPS works properly and renewals never slip through the cracks.

What is SSL/TLS provisioning?

SSL/TLS provisioning is the process of obtaining, installing and configuring a security certificate on your web server so your site runs over HTTPS. TLS (Transport Layer Security) is the modern successor to SSL, though most people still call them SSL certificates. A properly provisioned certificate encrypts the connection between your visitors' browsers and your server, protects data in transit and tells search engines your site is trustworthy.

What we handle

Certificate selection

We recommend the right certificate type for your needs — free Let's Encrypt for standard sites, commercial DV or OV certificates for ecommerce and higher-trust requirements.

Installation and configuration

Certificate installed on your server with the correct chain, cipher suites and TLS version settings so browsers trust it without warnings.

HTTPS redirect setup

All HTTP traffic automatically redirected to HTTPS so visitors always get the secure version of your site, no matter what link they follow.

HSTS configuration

HTTP Strict Transport Security headers configured so browsers remember to always use HTTPS for your domain — preventing downgrade attacks.

Auto-renewal

Let's Encrypt certificates renewed automatically before expiry. Commercial certificates tracked and renewed on schedule so you never see an expiry warning.

Certificate monitoring

Ongoing checks to confirm your certificate is valid, correctly installed and not about to expire — with alerts if anything changes.

Who it's for

  • Websites showing a 'Not Secure' warning because they don't have SSL or their certificate has expired.
  • Ecommerce sites and businesses collecting sensitive data that need a properly configured HTTPS setup.
  • Organisations running multiple domains or subdomains that need certificates managed across all of them.
  • Adelaide businesses on Whosts.au or other hosting that want SSL handled by someone who knows what they're doing.

How it works

  1. Assess your requirements. We check your hosting platform, domain setup and any specific trust requirements to determine the right certificate type.
  2. Obtain the certificate. Certificate requested from the appropriate authority — Let's Encrypt for standard use, or a commercial CA for organisation-validated certificates.
  3. Install and configure. Certificate installed on your server with the full chain, proper TLS settings and HTTPS redirects configured so everything works cleanly.
  4. Test thoroughly. We verify the certificate with SSL Labs and browser testing, check for mixed content issues and confirm HSTS headers are in place.
  5. Monitor and renew. Auto-renewal configured where possible, expiry dates tracked for commercial certificates, and ongoing monitoring to catch any certificate issues early.

Why WaTo for SSL/TLS provisioning

  • We configure SSL properly — not just the certificate, but the redirects, HSTS headers and TLS settings that make it actually secure.
  • Auto-renewal and monitoring mean you'll never wake up to an expired certificate scaring off your visitors.
  • We manage your hosting and SSL together — no coordination needed between separate providers.
  • Local Adelaide support since 2001 — if something goes wrong with your certificate, we fix it fast.
  • We'll tell you honestly whether you need a paid certificate or whether Let's Encrypt will do the job perfectly well.

SSL/TLS questions

Do I need a paid SSL certificate or is Let's Encrypt enough?

For most business websites, Let's Encrypt is perfectly fine — it provides the same level of encryption as paid certificates. You'd consider a paid certificate if you need organisation validation for higher trust, or if you need a warranty or wildcard coverage that Let's Encrypt doesn't offer.

My site already has SSL but I'm getting warnings — why?

Usually it's mixed content — your page loads over HTTPS but some images, scripts or stylesheets are still loading over HTTP. It can also be an expired certificate, an incomplete certificate chain or outdated TLS settings. We'll diagnose and fix it.

How often do SSL certificates need renewing?

Let's Encrypt certificates expire every 90 days but we auto-renew them so you never notice. Commercial certificates typically last one year and we track the expiry and handle renewal before they lapse.

Will installing SSL break anything on my site?

It shouldn't if done properly. The main thing that can go wrong is mixed content — where parts of the page still reference HTTP URLs. We check for this during installation and fix any issues so the transition is clean.

Our story

Built in Adelaide, since 2001

WaTo Consulting was founded by John Watson in Adelaide in 2001. Over two decades it's earned a name for tailored work across a wide range of industries — helping businesses of every size run more smoothly, work more efficiently and grow steadily, without blowing the budget or disrupting the day-to-day.

Emma Watson (née Dickenson) played a significant part in shaping what WaTo became. She brought real expertise and a clear vision for where it could go — expanding the business, bringing in new systems and fresh thinking, and raising the standard of how things are done. A great deal of what WaTo is, we owe to her.

Today it's all tailored, never off-the-shelf — IT & Digital, Business & Web Hosting, built around what each client actually needs. Over the years those areas have come together under one roof: our IT & Digital, Currency, Business and Web work (through Whosts.au) now all sit within WaTo Consulting — one team, one standard, looking after the lot.

When you work with us, you're not a client — you're a partner.
