What is VPS and cloud hosting?

Cloud hosting takes this further by distributing your server across multiple physical machines, so if one fails, another takes over.   3. We migrate your site or application. If you're moving from another host, we handle the migration — files, databases, SSL, DNS and email.
  4. We configure and harden. Firewall rules, SSH access, automatic backups and security baseline set up before anything goes live.
  5. Ongoing support. Managed clients get patching, monitoring and backup management. Unmanaged clients get infrastructure support and escalation when needed.

Shared hosting puts your site on a server with hundreds of other accounts sharing CPU and RAM. A VPS gives you guaranteed, dedicated resources and full control over your server environment. It's faster, more reliable and more flexible.

Do I need technical skills to run a VPS?

If you go unmanaged, yes — you'll need to be comfortable with server administration. If you choose managed, we handle the technical side and you just use your server.

Can I upgrade my VPS later?

Yes. You can scale CPU, RAM and storage as your needs grow without rebuilding your server or migrating to a new machine.

Is my data backed up?

We configure automatic backups as part of the setup. Managed clients get backup monitoring and restoration handled by our team. Unmanaged clients can run their own backup strategy or opt into our backup service.

Our story

Built in Adelaide, since 2001

WaTo Consulting was founded by John Watson in Adelaide in 2001. Over two decades it's earned a name for tailored work across a wide range of industries — helping businesses of every size run more smoothly, work more efficiently and grow steadily, without blowing the budget or disrupting the day-to-day.

Emma Watson (née Dickenson) played a significant part in shaping what WaTo became. She brought real expertise and a clear vision for where it could go — expanding the business, bringing in new systems and fresh thinking, and raising the standard of how things are done. A great deal of what WaTo is, we owe to her.

Today it's all tailored, never off-the-shelf — IT & Digital, Business & Web Hosting, built around what each client actually needs. Over the years those areas have come together under one roof: our IT & Digital, Currency, Business and Web work (through Whosts.au) now all sit within WaTo Consulting — one team, one standard, looking after the lot.
