Anti-spam and security filtering in Adelaide

If your team is spending half their morning deleting junk mail or worrying about clicking the wrong link, your email filtering isn't doing its job. We set up and manage proper anti-spam and security filtering for Adelaide businesses — blocking the rubbish before it hits your inbox and catching the dangerous stuff that basic filters miss.

What is anti-spam and security filtering?

Anti-spam and security filtering sits between the internet and your email server, scanning every incoming message for spam, phishing attempts, malware attachments and suspicious links. Good filtering uses a combination of blocklists, reputation scoring, content analysis and machine learning to sort legitimate email from the junk — and the dangerous. It's the first line of defence for your inbox and one of the most effective ways to reduce risk without changing how your team works.

What we set up

Inbound spam filtering

Junk mail, marketing spam and bulk email caught before it reaches your inbox — keeping things clean without blocking legitimate messages.

Phishing and impersonation detection

Emails pretending to be from banks, suppliers or colleagues identified and quarantined before your team can act on them.

Malware and attachment scanning

Dangerous attachments — infected documents, disguised executables, macro-laden spreadsheets — blocked before they can do damage.

Outbound filtering

Scanning your outgoing email too, so if a compromised account starts sending spam your domain reputation is protected.

Quarantine management

Blocked messages held in quarantine with daily digest reports so you can review what's been caught and release anything legitimate.

Allow and block lists

Custom rules for senders you always want to receive from or permanently block — fine-tuned to your business contacts.

Who it's for

  • Businesses drowning in spam that wastes time and distracts staff from real work.
  • Companies on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace that need stronger filtering than what's built in.
  • Organisations that have had a phishing scare and want a proper safety net in place.
  • Adelaide businesses hosting email with Whosts.au or any other provider that want managed spam protection.

How it works

  1. Assess your current filtering. We check what protection you have today, look at the spam and threats getting through, and identify where the gaps are.
  2. Deploy the filtering layer. Cloud-based filtering added in front of your email server — no software to install and no changes to how your team uses email.
  3. Configure MX records. Your domain's mail routing updated so all incoming email passes through the filter before reaching your mailboxes.
  4. Tune and train. We adjust sensitivity levels, set up allow and block lists, and fine-tune detection so false positives are kept to a minimum.
  5. Ongoing management. Filter rules updated as threats evolve, quarantine reviewed regularly and any delivery issues sorted out before they become a problem.

Why WaTo for email filtering

  • We manage your email platform and filtering together — no gaps between providers when something needs adjusting.
  • Adelaide-based support since 2001 — a real person you can call when a legitimate email gets caught or something suspicious slips through.
  • We tune the filters for your business, not just set them to defaults and walk away.
  • Quarantine reports in plain English so you know what's being blocked without needing a security background.
  • Protection that works across Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and standard hosted email.

Email filtering questions

Won't this block legitimate emails?

Good filtering is about accuracy, not just aggression. We tune the sensitivity for your business and use quarantine — so anything flagged is held for review, not silently deleted. If a legitimate email gets caught, you can release it and we'll adjust the rules so it doesn't happen again.

Doesn't Microsoft 365 already filter spam?

It has built-in filtering, but it misses a lot — especially targeted phishing and impersonation emails designed to look legitimate. A dedicated filtering layer catches the stuff that Microsoft's defaults let through.

How is this different from your email security service?

Our email security service focuses on advanced threat protection — business email compromise, sandboxing, and domain authentication. Anti-spam filtering is the broader first layer that catches the bulk of junk and common threats. Many businesses use both.

Can I still receive emails from specific senders even if they look like spam?

Yes. We set up allow lists for senders you trust so their emails always get through, even if the content would normally trigger the filter.

Ready to clean up your inbox?

Get in touch and we'll show you what's getting past your current filtering — it's usually more than you think.

No two businesses are the same — so nothing we do is off-the-shelf. Every solution is built around yours, and kept simple.

Our story

Built in Adelaide, since 2001

WaTo Consulting was founded by John Watson in Adelaide in 2001. Over two decades it's earned a name for tailored work across a wide range of industries — helping businesses of every size run more smoothly, work more efficiently and grow steadily, without blowing the budget or disrupting the day-to-day.

Emma Watson (née Dickenson) played a significant part in shaping what WaTo became. She brought real expertise and a clear vision for where it could go — expanding the business, bringing in new systems and fresh thinking, and raising the standard of how things are done. A great deal of what WaTo is, we owe to her.

Today it's all tailored, never off-the-shelf — IT & Digital, Business & Web Hosting, built around what each client actually needs. Over the years those areas have come together under one roof: our IT & Digital, Currency, Business and Web work (through Whosts.au) now all sit within WaTo Consulting — one team, one standard, looking after the lot.

When you work with us, you're not a client — you're a partner.
