The short answer

Start the IT side of an office move as soon as the lease is signed, because new internet services and cabling often take weeks to arrange. WaTo Consulting plans Adelaide office moves around the connection date, moves and reconnects computers, network gear, printers and phones, and tests every desk for login, printing and calls before staff arrive.

What does office move IT setup involve?

Most of the work happens weeks before the removalists arrive. We check the internet order and NBN connection date for the new address, work out where network points, Wi-Fi access points and printers need to go, and plan the order in which equipment comes down at the old site and goes up at the new one. On moving day we set up and test each desk so staff can log in, print and take calls when they walk in.

What WaTo can help with

Move planning

Map internet, network points, equipment and business-critical dates before moving day.

New-site setup

Set up Wi-Fi, devices, printers, phones and meeting technology at the new location.

Cutover testing

Test the things staff need before the doors open.

Old-site close-down

Disconnect or securely move old equipment, accounts and access where needed.

Who it is for

  • A business signing a lease on a new office that needs the internet ordered before the keys are handed over.
  • A clinic or shop relocating where the booking system, EFTPOS and phones all have to work on the first trading day.
  • A growing team moving from a small office into a bigger fit-out with new cabling and more desks.
  • An owner combining two sites into one and unsure which equipment is worth moving.

How it works

  1. We look at the new premises early. We check where the internet comes in, where the comms cabinet will sit and how far the Wi-Fi has to reach.
  2. We lock in the connection dates. Internet, phone numbers and any cabling work are booked with enough lead time that the new site is live before moving day.
  3. We move and rebuild the setup. Computers, network gear, printers and phones are packed, moved and reconnected at the new site, usually outside trading hours.
  4. We test every desk before staff arrive. Each workstation is checked for login, internet, printing and calls, and anything left at the old site is disconnected or wiped.

Why WaTo for office move IT setup

  • We deal with the NBN provider and phone carrier so your staff are not chasing order numbers in the middle of a move.
  • Network, Wi-Fi, phones and printers are handled by one team, so nothing falls between two contractors.
  • The new site gets a simple record of what plugs in where, which helps the next time someone adds a desk.
  • A local Adelaide team since 2001 that comes out to both the old and new sites.

Office move IT setup questions

How far ahead should we contact you about a move?

As early as you can, ideally as soon as the lease is signed. New internet services and cabling often take weeks to arrange, and that lead time is the thing most likely to hold up your first day. Once the connection is ordered, the rest of the planning can happen closer to the date.

Should we buy new equipment or move what we have?

Usually a mix of both. A move is a good time to retire very old computers or a network switch that was already struggling, but working equipment generally comes with you. We go through the list with you and point out anything not worth the effort of moving.

What happens to our phone numbers when we change address?

In most cases you can keep them. How simple that is depends on your phone system and carrier, so we check early and arrange the port or redirect so calls keep reaching you on the first day.

Who we work with

Our story

Built in Adelaide, since 2001

WaTo Consulting was founded by John Watson in Adelaide in 2001. Over two decades it's earned a name for tailored work across a wide range of industries, helping businesses of every size run more smoothly, work more efficiently and grow steadily, without blowing the budget or disrupting the day-to-day. Rumour has it the story starts much earlier, with a young Wato on his grandfather's knee in front of a Commodore 64, learning to code in BASIC.

Emma Watson (née Dickenson) was part of the story for a stage along the way. She brought real estate and property management expertise, and a clear view of where the business could go: growing it, bringing in new systems and fresh thinking, and lifting the standard of how things are done. WaTo has been through plenty of shapes and stages since, but one thing she helped sharpen has never changed: being consistent for the client is a must.

Today it's all tailored, never off-the-shelf: IT & Digital, Business & Web Hosting, built around what each client actually needs. Over the years those areas have come together under one roof: our IT & Digital, Currency, Business and Web Hosting work now all sit within WaTo Consulting. One team, one standard, looking after the lot.

When you work with us, you're a partner, not just a client.
