The short answer
Teams Phone gives each staff member a business number inside Teams, so calls work from a laptop, mobile or desk handset. For Adelaide businesses, WaTo Consulting maps how calls move today, builds auto attendants and call queues, ports your existing numbers, checks the internet can carry voice and tests calls before switching over.
What does Microsoft Teams Phone systems involve?
Teams Phone adds a proper phone number to each person's Teams account, so they can make and take business calls from the Teams app on a laptop, a mobile or a desk handset. Setting it up involves choosing a calling plan or carrier, porting your existing numbers, building auto attendants and call queues for reception, and making sure the internet connection can carry voice reliably.

Who it is for
- A business already living in Teams that still runs a separate, ageing phone system
- An office with staff split between home and the office who miss calls on fixed desk phones
- A reception team that needs call queues, after-hours messages and transfers without a physical switchboard
- A business whose old PBX contract is ending and wants to keep its existing numbers
How it works
- We map how calls move today. We note every number, who answers it, where calls go when nobody picks up and what happens after hours.
- We design the call flow in Teams. Auto attendants, call queues, hunt groups and voicemail are set up to match the way your reception actually works.
- We port the numbers and test. Your existing numbers are moved across from the old carrier, and we test inbound, outbound and transfer calls before switching over.
- We get staff and devices ready. Headsets or desk phones are set up and each person is shown how to answer, transfer and pick up voicemail in Teams.
Why WaTo for Microsoft Teams Phone systems
- We check your internet and network quality before go-live, since call problems are usually a connection problem
- Number porting is coordinated so your published numbers stay reachable through the changeover
- Call flows are built around your reception staff, not a generic template
- Adding a new starter's extension later is a quick request to the same local team
Microsoft Teams Phone questions
Can we keep our existing phone numbers on Teams Phone?
In most cases, yes. Numbers can usually be ported from your current carrier into Teams. We check the numbers and the carrier details first, since some older or bundled numbers need extra steps.
Do we still need desk phones with Teams Phone?
Not necessarily. Many people take calls on a headset through the Teams app on their laptop or phone. Desk handsets that work with Teams are still a good choice for reception and anyone who is on the phone all day.
What licences are needed for Teams Phone?
Each user who needs a phone number needs a Teams Phone licence plus a way to connect to the phone network, either a Microsoft calling plan or a carrier connection. Some Microsoft 365 plans include the Teams Phone part already, so we check your current licences first.
